Portrait bust exploring human/non-human animal hybridization. The extent to which "scientists" toy with the natural world is an ongoing concern for me. Our genetic relatives, the great apes, are a continued target for abuse, under the guise of science and product testing in various industries. The geometric forms, seen at the base of the piece, imply a sense of the cold, industrial environments found in testing facilities or the cages the animals are forced into, etc.. Humans create dehumanizing environments for perpetuating cruelty. Here are some details on how this sculpture was made.
