This is a proposal for a public sculpture, commemorating the career and eccentricities of one, Clint Hurdle, coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates. This man is probably the most enthusiastic bubble-gum chewer living today. Throughout the duration of his career, I have estimated that he has probably chewed about 9,328 cubic inches of gum. The calculations would result in a sphere with a diameter measuring slightly more that 2 feet. Simply amazing.
Here are some statistics.
date - May 22, 2015 | chew average - 73 cpm (chews per minute) | average volume per game - 4in3 | games played - 515 | games coached - 1817 | Total number of games - 2332 | cubic inches of gum chewed per game - 4 | total cubic inches of gum chewed - 9328 | radius = 13.0587 in | Volume = 9328 in3 | Area = 2142.94 in2 | Circumference = 82.0502 in
It should be noted that there has been some debate over these figures, and the accuracy of their calculation.
