This is an assemblage/construction of simple materials. Matches are tied together in a pattern, resembling the start of a helix; a rather organic or disheveled one. I was making these small boxes from found wood at the time. So, it fit nicely into the box. It seemed as if the construction was sinking into the plane defined by the sides of the box. I had the opportunity to exhibit this piece at Ceres gallery in New York around the time I made this. Then again at a small arts show in Western PA (Cranberry, I think). I never saw it again. All the phone numbers went dead, everybody kept banker's hours and nobody knew who any organization members were. It was like the circus came to town, took everybody's money and then vanished without a trace.
