This work concerns animal testing and genetic engineering. If patented organisms are bred for testing, then it seems to be thought that the ethical problem of torturing them can take a back seat. I don't agree. This model is no different than interspecies slavery and is founded on the idea that one species (aka. race) can own another one. In this context, the owner can do whatever they want with their "property." Sentient beings are not property. This (and other pieces) attempt to bring these issues to light.
