I might take pictures of things that feel spectacular, interesting, or peculiar. Sometimes I will use these images as a basis for a painting. Clouds are usually fascinating since they transform themselves into things that seem recognizable. But they couldn't be less concerned with what they look like to us. How's that for anthropomorphism. One of many reasons why my head is always in the clouds.

Photographic distortion is most reminiscent to me of what most people are trying to do with the act of painting, turning oneself into a camera. So, where photographic and "printing" distortions occur, I try to create more of them. It's enough abstraction to remove the egoic attachments to "things."
