This imaginary landscape is developed primarily from creating a non-specific morass of different values on paper using a graphite stick. Then, like a rorschach test, I start to see other forms that could begin to emerge. I will then draw in these forms and try to develop a sense of narrative and light in the image. Many of these drawings become dream-like or surreal.
This drawing emerged from a recent visit to various museums in the Washington D.C. area. The collection of artworks there is astonishing. This drawing also reflects what much of the landscape of the surrounding area looks like (York, Brandywine) and also between Ohio and Indiana. If you look in the distance, you can see the farm, right in the middle of the drawing.
