Recently, much of my involvement as a guitarist has been in playing with a band called Ishtar, a middle-eastern Bellydance band based in Pittsburgh. We have been playing these traditional dance songs with a kind of Americanized heavy-rock sound. It's been called "Metal-Eastern" sometimes. I began work with Ishtar around the middle of 2013, but since the band's rock sound, we have moved on to an acoustic sound with more traditional percussion at the beginning of 2016.
If you have been keeping tabs on American news media, you will notice that the middle-east is host to some of the more misunderstood and misrepresented cultures in the world. Therefore, I'm glad to play a role in helping to bring some aspects of this music to an American audience.
Here are some samples of some live performances. If you like what you hear, check out the band website. www.ishtar-music.com
